As with our yearly tradition, we present our annual list of the most-read articles on ThinkGeoEnergy for 2022.

As with our annual tradition, we have collated the 10 articles we published in ThinkGeoEnergy on 2022 that have gained the highest number of visitors or readers. The list is below:

  1. Farewell to coal and nuclear: where does baseload come from?
  2. Entire US lithium demand can be supplied by Salton Sea geothermal plants
  3. ThinkGeoEnergy’s Top 10 Geothermal Countries 2021 – installed power generation capacity (MWe)
  4. University of Calgary research creates geothermal map for Alberta, Canada
  5. Why we are entering the golden decade for geothermal
  6. Geothermal lagoon planned in Quebec, Canada
  7. Geothermal and carbon capture – a natural synergy
  8. The technology trends for future geothermal energy projects
  9. Geothermal drilling startup Quaise Energy secures $40m in new funding
  10. Geothermal mine water system in development in Durham, UK

Like last year’s top 10 list, the newest top 10 list gives us a glimpse into which topics gained the most widespread and long-lasting attention. Although there is some variety to the top 10 articles, most of them pertain to technology plays and value-adding applications of geothermal energy – carbon capture, lithium extraction, mine water geothermal, and the millimeter-wave drilling technology being developed by Quaise Energy.

Also worth mentioning that our Global Geothermal Plant Map continued to be the most-visited page on our site. We strive to keep this map updated based on the latest news on geothermal projects.

It has also been encouraging to see articles focused on energy transition and the “geothermal decade” get a wider reach. An article published in early 2022 on the imminent phase out of nuclear and coal power in Germany has been consistently read throughout the year. However, this article was published prior to the European energy crisis and the situation in Germany has changed since then.

Despite the setbacks, the geothermal industry continues to thrive. With new projects under development and numerous research efforts worldwide for innovative geothermal solutions, all signs indicate that the industry is coming into 2023 with huge momentum.

We have also published the Top 10 articles for 2022 for our Spanish and Turkish language platforms, PiensaGeotermia and JeotermalHaberler.
