Hez Enerji board member Osman Sen highlighted the potential for the recovery of critical minerals such as lithium and boron from Türkiye's geothermal resources.

Within the scope of the 2nd European Direct Lithium Extraction Conference (Direct Lithium Extraction Europe 2025) held on 8-9 September 2025, HEZ Enerji shared Türkiye’s geothermal lithium potential and ongoing investments with international stakeholders.

Making a presentation on behalf of the company, board member and company founder Osman ?en provided detailed information about the HEZ Energy Moralu GPP-1 Geothermal Power Plant located in the Germencik district of Aydin and new investment plans.

HEZ Enerji’s licensed area in Germencik covers more than 9,000 hectares. To date, 12 geothermal wells have been drilled at the site – seven are used for production and five for reinjection. A geothermal power plant with an installed capacity of 24 MWe is currently operating in the region.

Lithium and boron recovery

A presentation at the conference also highlighted the potential for recovering critical minerals such as lithium and boron from Türkiye’s geothermal resources. ?en emphasized that HEZ Enerji is not limited to electricity generation but is also evaluating innovative technologies for extracting critical raw materials from geothermal fluids.

The company considers geothermal energy not only as an energy source but also as a multifaceted economic value chain. In this context, it was stated that studies are ongoing to examine the applicability of next-generation direct lithium extraction (DLE) technologies in Türkiye.

Direct Lithium Extraction Europe 2025 took place in Munich, Germany. The event focused on cutting-edge technologies for the direct extraction of critical minerals such as lithium and boron from geothermal fluids and other brine sources.
