Geothermal drilling starts for heating in Plessis-Robinson and Chatenay-Malabry, France
Groupe Coriance has started drilling for a geothermal heating project to serve Chatenay-Malabry and Plessis-Robinson communes in Paris, France.
The Coriance Group, through subsidiary Reseau Terra Confort, has announced the start of drilling for a geothermal heating system to serve the communes of Plessis-Robinson and Chatenay-Malabry, part of the Greater Paris Area in France. The drilling work is expected to be completed by January 2026, and the commissioning of the geothermal system is planned by Spring of the same year.
The plan is to drill to a depth of 1600 to 1700 meters, where geothermal waters at 68 °C are expected. This will then be supplied to a heating plant, where the heat will be recovered to supply the urban heating network. This will allow the network to supply up to 15,000 homes with 88% renewable energy, thus reinforcing the commitment of the two municipalities to a sustainable energy transition.
The Coriance Group is investing EUR 96 million on this project, aided by a EU 29.25 million grant from the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) as part of the Heat Fund. This public initiative plays an important tole in the energy transition by providing financial support to renewable energy-based heat production facilities.
To officially mark the launch of the project, site visits were organized in the presence of Carl Segaud, Mayor of Chatenay-Malabry, and Philippe Pemezec, Mayor of Plessis-Robinson, as well as other local officials.
The visits allowed the Coriance teams to present the progress of the construction site, including the work being done on the future geothermal heating plant. This will house the surface infrastructure needed to support the operations of the network such as the pumps, heat exchangers, and water treatment systems.
An educational bungalow has also been constructed close to the drilling site, where local residents can participate in educational activities designed to help better understand the project. The facility also provide a space to safely monitor the drilling operations.
Groupe Coriance had just recently completed drilling for another geothermal heating project in Garges-lès-Gonesse while drilling work is ongoing for another project in Dugny and Le Bourget.
