Çelikler to drill 11 geothermal exploration wells in two sites in Aydin, Türkiye
Çelikler has started the EIA process for the drilling 11 geothermal exploration wells in two license areas in the Sultanhisar district of Aydin, Türkiye.
Çelikler Contracting Construction and Industry Inc. (Çelikler Taahhüt Insaat ve Sanayi A.S.) plans to drill a total of 11 geothermal wells at two licensed sites in the Sultanhisar district of Aydin, Türkiye. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for the planned drilling has been initiated.
The project involves drilling six wells in ATG1 and five wells in ATG2, to be carried out in license areas 2023-5 and 2023-6. The drilling will be carried out to identify geothermal resources and will cover a total area of ??approximately 15,000 m².
Çelikler’s power plants operating in the region
Sultanhisar Geothermal Electricity Generation Facility, operated by Çelikler Sultanhisar Geothermal Electricity Generation Inc., a subsidiary of Çelikler Energy has an installed capacity of 13.80 MWe and is among the important geothermal energy power plants in Aydin.
The plant generates approximately 73 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the energy needs of more than 20,000 people. If residential consumption alone is considered, this is equivalent to the electricity needs of approximately 24,500 homes.
The facility, licensed by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) in 2016, was commissioned at full capacity in 2017, and the provisional acceptance process for the 22.5 MWe Sultanhisar GPP-2 project has also been completed.
