A free, self-paced online course on shallow geothermal energy is now available on the eDx platform, developed within the European GEOBOOST project framework.

The GEORIN consortium invites professionals, students, and the general public to register for the online course “Specialization in Shallow Geothermal Energy: Skills Development and Training Across the EU”, available on the educational platform edX.org. This is a self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) focusing on the design and practical application of shallow geothermal energy systems, with a focus on ground source heat pumps (GSHP).

The course is available through the following link: Specialization in Shallow Geothermal Energy (edX)

Participants can take the course for free, with the option to obtain a verified certificate for a fee.

Course contents

The course provides knowledge and tools to:

  • Evaluate and design shallow geothermal systems (vertical wells, groundwater, and horizontal systems).
  • Understand site selection criteria, drilling methods, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Integrate systems into buildings and apply good operation and maintenance practices.

The materials have been developed within the framework of the European GEOBOOST project , with the aim of standardizing high-quality training throughout the European Union.

Who is it aimed at?

The training is aimed at installers, designers, planners, public policy makers, drillers, energy consultants, engineers, and students interested in improving their skills in efficient HVAC solutions. The modular structure allows each participant to tailor the training to their own professional or academic profile.
