Star Energy details expansion plans for brownfield geothermal fields in Indonesia

Star Energy Geothermal plans to continue geothermal power capacity growth in Indonesia through expansion and retrofit work at their operational fields.
PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) has stated plans to increase installed geothermal power capacity through expansion of their brownfield sites, operated by subsidiary PT Star Energy Geothermal (Star Energy). This information was provided through a disclosure to the Indonesian Stock Exchange.
According to the company statement, BREN is targeting the following capacity addition projects over the next couple of years:
- 18.4-MW Wayang Windu Unit 1 & 2 retrofit by the end of 2025
- 30-MW Wayang Windu Unit 3 and 40-MW Salak Unit 7 by end of 2026
- 7-MW Darajat Unit 2 retrofit by the end of 2026
Moreover, the company has started exploration drilling operations at the Hamiding prospect in North Maluku. The project has a total planned capacity of 300 MW, with BREN currently targeting 50 MW for initial development.
Earlier this year, Star Energy had successfully increased installed capacity at the Salak geothermal field with the addition of a 15.5-MW binary unit, as well as a 7.7-MW retrofit of Salak Units 4, 5, and 6.
BREN has set a roadmap towards 2.3 GW of renewable energy installed capacity by 2032. The company also holds wind power assets, primarily the 78.75 MW Sidrap I wind power plant and several greenfield sites under development.
