Star Energy Geothermal has completed a retrofit of several units of the Salak geothermal power plant in Java, Indonesia, increasing installed capacity by 7.7 MWe.

Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of Barito Renewables, has announced the completion of a retrofit project of Units 4, 5, and 6 of the Salak geothermal power plant in West Java, Indonesia. With this, the installed capacity of the geothermal field has been increase by 7.7 MW, which is higher than the expected 7.2 MW.

“The completion of the Salak retrofit project is part of our commitment to continuously improve asset performance, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. This is also driven by the solid performance of our entire team, which has enabled us to achieve our targets,” said BREN President Director Hendra Soetjipto Tan in a prepared statement.

The company invested a total of USD 22.5 million for the retrofit project. BREN had previously released a statement setting a target of more than 100 MW of additional geothermal generating capacity in the next few years with a total investment of USD 365 million. Star Energy Geothermal currently has a total installed capacity of 910.3 MW.

BREN had recently signed a USD 121 million loan agreement which is intended to go towards expansion work of the Salak and Darajat geothermal fields. Earlier this year, the company put online the 15.5-MW Salak geothermal binary power plant.
