SLB, Star Energy partner to support development of Sekincau geothermal project in Indonesia
SLB and Star Energy Geothermal have signed a cooperation agreement for the development of the Sekincau geothermal field in Lampung, Indonesia.
PT Star Energy Geothermal, a subsidiary of PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN), has signed an agreement with SLB to support the development of the Sekincau geothermal field in Lampung province in Sumatra, Indonesia. The collaboration framework also includes the implementation of future technologies, both in Indonesia and abroad.
Under the agreement, SLB will provide fully integrated drilling services for the development phase of the Sekincau geothermal field. The collaboration will also cover the design and field planning of the project. Beyond Sekincau, the agreement will aim at strengthening geothermal expertise in Indonesia and expanding it internationally. This will apply to subsurface mapping, integrated planning, and well drilling services to reduce technical risks of geothermal projects and improve project development efficiency.
The new agreement builds on a previous partnership between SLB and Star Energy Geothermal that was focused more on technology initiatives.
“This collaboration combines SLB’s global execution experience with Star Energy Geothermal’s operational capabilities to support geothermal development, both in Indonesia and internationally,” said SLB Indonesia Managing Director Nurzhan Ongaltayev.
“Indonesia has enormous potential as a global geothermal energy source, and this collaboration is a crucial step in transforming that potential into tangible impact,” added Hendra Tan, President Director of PT Barito Renewables Energy and CEO of Star Energy Geothermal Group.
The Sekincau Selatan Preliminary Survey and Exploration Assignment (PSPE) was awarded to PT Star Energy Geothermal Suoh Sekincau (SEGSS) in 2018. The site has since then been a part of the company’s growth and expansion plans.
