Open Mountain Energy and Power Planet have signed terms to co-develop an enhanced geothermal system at the Humboldt House resource area in Nevada.

Kaishan Group, through wholly owned subsidiary Open Mountain Energy LLC (OME), has signed a term sheet with Power Planet Inc (PP) to jointly develop an enhanced geothermal system (EGS) at OME’s Humboldt House geothermal resource area in Nevada. The key terms of this term sheet are binding, and both parties agree to sign a contract within the next three months and commence drilling within twelve months of contract signing. The company will publish relevant commercial terms after the contract is signed.

The Humboldt House geothermal resource area is located in Pershing County and is adjacent to the Star Peak geothermal power project, which has been operational under OME since 2022. According to a 2011 study, the Humboldt House block possess 200 to 500 MW of EGS resource potential.

The collaboration between PP and OME will leverage their respective strengths to develop the enhanced geothermal resources of the Humboldt House block. OME, in addition to its resource area development rights, will provide power for EGS development, tailwater from the Star Peak power plant, grid capacity, and power generation equipment.

PP’s team boasts a complete development team, including drilling and development experts who have successfully drilled hundreds of wells in shale formations, senior experts in geological science and geothermal engineering, and financing experts who previously worked for the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for critical energy strategy.

OME currently has two operational geothermal power projects in the United States – the aforementioned Star Peak project, and the 4-MW Whitegrass No.1 binary geothermal power plant in Yerington, Nevada. It holds the licenses for several other geothermal areas, including the non-operational Bottle Rock geothermal power plant, which the company acquired in 2022. The Kaishan Group has global presence in the geothermal sector, with wholly or partially controlled projects in Indonesia, Kenya, the United States, Türkiye, and Hungary.
